Change of pace…
If I told you, that I spent the entire morning faffing with those rings trying to record a 30-second video, you would surely question my sanity. Despite all expectations, I enjoyed myself very much and I hope, it will show one day somewhere. I changed the order of making things a little as I remembered that it is going to be time to start talking about jewellery workshops - beginning 4th February in Boom Studios - as well as taking a day or two to build a bit of distance from the more elaborate pieces. Each piece of jewellery in my upcoming collection is inspired by some ancient archaeological find. But as I’m not the type that likes making replicas or following other people’s processes, I’m rather trying to think how would the same idea manifest in the 21st century with the tools, materials and also restrictions we are facing at the moment. I think I might find pictures and examples that led me to certain ideas just to talk through the process… For example, these rings are inspired by a La Tene bracelet found in the Czech Republic. I bet you wouldn’t recognise it, but that’s where my design process started.
Today, I have a bit of a special day working on another project that I haven’t talked about yet, but hopefully will very soon. Now it is just about finding time to write it all down and share it. Wish me luck!
And if you are in Bangor and would like to make your own silver ring, come to the workshop on 4th February at 3 pm, booking link is here: https://www.boomstudios.org.uk/jewellery-making
